Trailblazer

Leading Change is highly challenging. Over 30% of strategic initiatives fail, largely because they fail to address the human side of change. The Change Trailblazer simulation turns stakeholder alignment into a safe, engaging learning experience. Participants step into the role of a project lead and learn how to influence and navigate dynamic, evolving relationships in real time, leading to successful change adoption.

How to play

You start with a dashboard giving a snapshot of the managers in your project environment. Your mission is to convince all 24 managers to adopt new organizational processes and ways of working. Each stakeholder has unique motivations, priorities, and levels of influence.

Your job? Build alignment by implementing a series of strategic actions — such as holding one-on-one meetings, hiring experts, running a pilot, sending tailored communications, and more.

You have limited time and limited influence, so you learn to prioritize, empathize, and anticipate reactions. Every action changes relationships. Sometimes positively. Sometimes… not so much.

For participants, the simulation provides a fast, low-risk way to practice skills that typically take years of trial and error to master. Experienced leaders of strategic initiatives say that it's scarily close to reality. Are you up to the task?

Succeed and learn

  • This isn’t theoretical learning. It’s experiential.

The simulation improves participants' ability to:
  • Map stakeholder power, interests, and motivations
  • Influence how stakeholders move from awareness to adoption using a set of strategic change management tools
  • Choose the right timing and sequencing of organizational communications

Playing Change Trailblazer was scarily real. This is what I do every day. It really made me reflect on how I go about involving people in initiatives.

I liked the way that the challenge combines theory with practice so that I could learn in a structured way. It was fun too.
